The brothers of the Richardson-Plano (TX) Alumni Chapter (RPA) and the Richardson-Plano Kappa League gathered to support the Annual Thanksgiving Basket Drive on November 18th. For 24 years, the members of RPA have gathered to assemble baskets to support over 100 families in the Dallas, Collin, and Denton County of the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex.
Headed by Brother Antonio (Tony) Taylor, and Brother Eardis Grigsby, the RPA chapter partners with Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Plano, Tx under the leadership of Senior Pastor, Isiah Joshua Jr., to identify families that are in need and coordinate getting them a Thanksgiving meal. Members are tasked with soliciting their networks for donations and making personal contributions to purchase a meal for families in need. This year the chapter was able to generate roughly $6000 to purchase a complete meal including, turkey, vegetables, stuffing, rolls, dessert, drinks and other sides.
Brothers met early in the brisk autumn air to assemble the baskets and begin distribution. With over 40 volunteers present the work of serving the community went by quickly with members being able to fellowship and share memories of past years supporting the event. Pre-registered families were able to drive through the well-organized distribution event at the church to receive their Thanksgiving Meal. A small group of brothers took baskets directly to a community in Lucas, Texas to pass-out baskets there. “This is why we do this. This is the Kappa I know. Supporting the communities around us and helping where we can,” said Taylor. The brothers of RPA took this opportunity to give back and inspire service in the public interest.
